What is generalization in machine learning?

In machine learning, generalization usually refers to the ability of an algorithm to be effective across a range of inputs and applications.

While machine learning may be able to achieve superhuman performance in a certain field, the underlying algorithm will never be effective in any other field than the one it was explicitly created for because it has ability to generalize outside of that domain.

It is tht kind of generalization which currently, simply doesn’t exist in machine learning despite the best efforts of researchers.
