NIPS 2017 Tutorial on Differential Privacy and MachineLearning

We (really Mohsen and Zahra) had a paper nominated for a student paper award at CAMSAP last year, but since both student authors are from Iran, their single-entry student visas prevented them from going to the conference.

The award terms require that the student author present the work (in a poster session) and the conference organizers were kind enough to allow Mohsen to present his poster via Skype.

I agree that scholarly communication through oral presentation is a valuable skill, but if the award is going to be determined by who gives the best show at the conference, they should retitle these to “best student paper and presentation award”

they miss out on opportunities to get their name/face known, chances to meet and network with people, and the experience of being exposed to a ton of ideas in a short amount of time.

The CCTA 2017 Student Best Paper Award is funded by the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) and has been established to recognize excellence in a CCTA paper whose primary contributor is a Student Member of the IEEE.

Eligibility The primary and first-listed author must be a student at the time of original submission, and must have a current IEEE membership for the year 2017.

Prize The award recipient receives round trip (economy class) air fare and up to four conference-rate hotel-nights at the CCTA 2017.

Ragazzon, NTNU, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, for the paper entitled: 'Exponential convergence bounds in least squares estimation: Identification of viscoelastic properties in atomic force microscopy' (advisor: Professor Jan Tommy Gravdahl).

Meggars Award, 2011 Innovation Award) - Raman Spectroscopy for Measurements in Deep Space and the Deep Ocean See other exciting news and information at Spectroscopy online Many different awards are presented to scientists at the SciX conference presented by FACSS.

Typically, that person will have served with excellence in many different capacities and will have contributed to the continuing success of FACSS through consistent dedication and sacrifice.

All presenters are eligible, if the content of their presentation has not been published or presented in any domain before the SciX meeting (articles in submission but not published are acceptable).

In assessing each candidate for the award, the judges are asked to consider innovation/novelty, impact, creativity, transformative potential and technical merit.

Policy approved by the Satellite Division Executive Committee, October 2017 Student Paper Awards are intended to give promising students an opportunity to attend the world’s leading international ION GNSS+ conference and present their research.  The students also get an opportunity to meet industry leaders and learn about the latest developments in GNSS technology.

The Student Awards Chair will sort the submitted papers by topic and provide papers to selected member(s) of the Student Awards Committee for evaluation.  Papers will be selected based on the review of the designated member(s) of the Student Awards Committee.  The Student Awards Chair will work with the Program Chair of the Meeting to assign the winning papers into the appropriate technical sessions as primary papers.

Winning students will also receive a flat rate of travel subsidy based on the country in which the sponsoring school is located (not the country in which the student may reside) as follows: The student is responsible for making all travel arrangements.

Failure to do so would affect the acceptance of future paper(s) submitted for consideration under the Student Award Program.  In extreme cases, special arrangements will be made for students who would be unable to participate should their school be unable or unwilling to administer travel arrangements directly.

The Harry Boer Best Student Paper Award

The Harry Boer Best Student Paper Award, established in 2009, is granted to the best paper presented at the conference authored by a PhD student.

The winner of the best student paper will receive GBP250 and a framed certificate;

In addition, the winner will be awarded one complimentary conference registration voucher for the following year for the main author, sponsored by EurOMA.

Things to consider before lodging an application

All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders who will normally be granted a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements;

If you are planning to visit Australia for a business event such as a conference, trade fair, seminar or expo, you may be able to apply for one of the following visas.

Although this is a separate process to lodging your visa application, when assessing whether you meet the criteria for the grant of a visa, the department may take into account whether you are registered or were invited to attend the event.

To request a letter of invitation please contact the Conference secretariat at  You should apply for a visa at least two months prior to the intended date of departure, and four months prior if there are any character or health concerns.

See: If you are unsure whether you satisfy the character requirements because of prior criminal convictions, you should lodge a paper-based application at the Australian visa office nearest to your current place of residence, at least four months prior to the event start date.

When you receive your Australian visa you are issued with a visa grant notice that explains the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entry requirements.
