At the same time, you will deepen your understanding of best practices and ethical issues of AI, as well as its far-reaching impact on organisations, societies and the world.

You can either complete a research project under the guidance of an internationally recognised expert (as a potential pathway to a PhD) or engage in an industry experience studio project.

Often — but not always — AI involves some level of machine learning, where an algorithm is 'trained' to respond to a particular input in a certain way by using known inputs and outputs.

Up until quite recently, all industrial robots could only be programmed to carry out a repetitive series of movements which, as we have discussed, do not require artificial intelligence.

A self-driving car might use a combination of AI algorithms to detect and avoid potential hazards on the road.

Say that you wanted the cobot to detect the object it was picking up and place it in a different location depending on the type of object.

The robot's movements are not really controlled by AI (though the output of the object detector does influence its movements).

The programme will launch with a week-long bootcamp, in which you will visit the participating institutes, get to know potential supervisors and participate in workshops and cohort-building activities.

You will also complete two sizeable projects: a group project worth 40 credits on a data modelling challenge set by a collaborating lab or industrial partner, and an interdisciplinary individual project worth 80 credits (your main MSc project).
