Artificial Intelligence in Industry with Daniel Faggella

A lot of AI in the press is CMOs or marketing people talking about what a company can do in a way that really is aspirational.

They've raised upwards of $40,000,000 in the last six years to apply artificial intelligence to the future of customer service, and we speak about the hard challenges of chatbots and conversational interfaces, as well as how long it's going to be until those are actually robust.

We also discuss why companies maybe need to have a realistic expectation about where they can apply AI, as well as why actually innovating and coming up with new AI capabilities on their own might just be wholly unreasonable given their data, their company culture, and their density of AI talent.

‘Troubled’ Baidu’s AI Pivot Fails to Woo Investors

Despite announcing a flood of new initiatives in a bid to transform itself into an artificial intelligence (AI) specialist, Chinese search engine Baidu has failed to energize skeptical investors at its annual developer’s conference in Beijing this week.

formidable force in the personal computer era when its search engine was a popular gateway to the internet, Baidu’s dominance has faded as a host of mobile apps have bitten into the company’s bread-and-butter online ad business.

The company has been dogged by scandal since 2016, when a college student named Wei Zexi died after the company’s search engine led him to a costly and bogus experimental cancer treatment.

And early this year, the company took flak when a former journalist published a provocative blog post titled “Baidu as a Search Engine Is Dead,” which accused the company’s search product of focusing on content hosted on Baidu pages.

Li was making a keynote address on Wednesday at the opening of an annual Baidu event to promote its advances in artificial intelligence (AI), when a man approached the stage and emptied a bottle of water over Li's head.
